On the fifteenth of August the year twenty thirteen, President Obama gave an announcement on a thorny issue. The American immigration department was in a verge of deporting all the immigrants who were brought into America when they were young. This was in a move to clean the nation by getting rid of non citizens. However, the declaration of the president that deferred action for dreamers came as a sigh of relief.

This was in contrast with the earlier plans to send them back to the countries from where they were brought. Ranging from study, work and courtesy call, the US normally receives overwhelming number of immigrants annually. A strategy was therefore being enacted to screen the populace in order to remain with a manageable number. It was, however an encouraging move to hear the head of state make such an announcement.

Just take a picture of a woman who visits a foreign land with her little daughter who is less than a year old. This woman then dies in the new land leaving the daughter under the care of friends. There are no papers to confirm the nationality of the girl. She is of good morals and performs exceptionally well in school.

Some have since graduated from some of the esteemed universities in the country. Their degrees are first class and they believe they are top cream members of society. In fact, there are a good number of them who have political ambitions to one day be the president like their predecessor, Obama! Their desire is to work and continue achieving their ambitions in the land that they cherish and love.

They were rightly called dreamers because they really are, and it is only prudent if they are assisted to achieve their desires. Their hope is to develop their careers in the US, their homeland. That is the nation whose language, culture and policies they understand. It does not come to their imagination that one day someone will arise to send them away.

The action that the president and his administration took was thus a right one. Still, more needs to be done as the dreamers need total freedom. At the moment there are some regulations governing their stay that are evidently unfair. Considering the current state of affairs, they are just like visitors who can be driven out any time the owner of the house changes mind.

They might have come from Brazil, Nigeria and other parts of the world; this should not be an issue. What should matter is the positive change that can result from peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding. If accorded full citizenship, they will be more useful to America and the world at large. Acceptance is what they need.

At times a number of them do break the law. They should not be made as a justification to purge the rest who are innocent. Man is to error and an errant man should be left to carry his cross alone. Otherwise, if every law breaker was to be chased away then there would be a world crisis. America should therefore offer exemplary leadership by safeguarding human rights.
