Many studies have shown the benefits of early childhood education. Children who have attend school prior to kindergarten often have both social and academic advantages. Although it is not a legal requirement to send your child to preschool, it is definitely a good idea. There are many important things to explore and keep in mind when choosing a Yonkers preschool.

First of all, you want to be sure that the school you choose is licensed and reputable. There are plenty of safe and secure options, but there are also some daycares that operate simply for profit and that do not have the proper licensing. There is also a difference between preschool and daycare. While daycare may simply provide the children with safe supervision, a real preschool will focus on helping them learn and preparing them for an academic environment.

The location of the school is also important. Be sure to choose a school that is conveniently located in relation to your residence and/or your workplace. Find a school where you will be able to drop of your child and pick him up without too much hassle.

The safety and effectiveness of a school have everything to do with the people who work there. Be sure that you have met and spoken with the staff of the places you are considering. It is best of they are trained in early childhood development, but at the very least they should be friendly and responsible people.

The schools schedule is an important factor as well. You will want to be sure that the day starts and finishes at times when you are available to drop off and pick up your son or daughter. If your schedule does not allow this, find out if other family members can help out.

Spend some time learning about the curriculums of the different schools you are considering. There are many different philosophies regarding early childhood education, and you want to be sure to choose a school that has a philosophy and curriculum you agree with. Most people agree that the best preschool curriculum will include lots of hands on learning, in centers that will allow the children to explore different types of play. Activities may include artwork, playing with blocks, or listening to the teacher read stories, among other things. There should be a wide variety, and the children should be able to explore many different ways of learning.

In addition to all of these other things, consider the school's physical setting. How does it look, smell, and feel? You want your child to be in a pleasant environment. Also, make sure that it is well-lit and open, and these things are important when considering safety. Make sure the children are always supervised and visible to staff members. If you are an astute observer, you will able to tell a lot about the school's philosophy and curriculum by looking around.

All of these things are important in finding a Yonkers preschool. You may have other things you want to consider as well. Make a list of the questions you want to ask, and consult with other parents to determine your own criteria for choosing a school for your child.
