All of us want good grades for our children in school. This can be done with the help of parents assisting in their lessons on a regular basis. However, some of us do not have the time, especially when we are handling two jobs at a time or if we are single parents at that. In this case, many have thought of availing of a tutoring San Diego service.

Tutors have a specialized skill set, something that we as parents ma not have. We may be great at bringing them up, but we may not be so hot in teaching them. So should you do decide on getting a tutor, here is a sample checklist for you to consider.

The first item on your checklist is if you should go by agency or not. Some agencies do offer this kind of service and may be easier to contact than those who work independently. You can easily find them as they do have a presence in the internet. Those who work independently may be a bit harder to find although you will also see advertisements, especially on Craig's list. You can also find good independent tutors through referrals from friends or colleagues.

A background check on a potential tutor is a very important consideration. When hiring from an agency this can be an easier task, especially if the agency is a reputable one. This can however be more challenging if hire an independent tutor. When doing so, ask for a verifiable client list that you can follow up or even recommendation letters if available. Background checks are important to prevent criminal elements coming into contact with you or your child.

Fully assess what your child really needs. Are you getting a tutor for advancement in studies or simply to keep up or catch up? Either case, make sure that you are really doing it for your child and not for your own expectations, as children all develop and learn differently according to their pace.

Include also an item on your list wherein you will be able to personally interview the tutor. Gauge if he or she has the necessary experience for the job. Try to determine if the person is patient and other positive personality traits that will help make the tutoring an enjoyable experience for your child.

Inquiring and assessing rates is always very important. In general, independent tutors are mostly teachers trying to earn extra money on the side, so they can be a bit cheaper than agencies. Hiring an actual teacher to tutor your child is very advantageous so you do not have to worry about their expertise. For tutors coming from groups such as an agency, you may pay extra for additional fees. It does not hurt to inquire.

When you have decided to avail of a tutoring San Diego service, try to be present at the first session. Observe how your child and tutor interact and rapport so you can gauge how well future sessions will go. Doing this should give you more peace of mind in the event that you are not present during these sessions.
