There are many misconceptions when people think of writing a book. Many who have not done it think its an impossible task that takes years to finish. And most people do not have any idea where to start.

In reality, writing a book is lot easier than perceived. Different techniques from thousands or authors are just a web search away, and editing services and others that help authors are cheaper and more accessible than ever. It is time you find out how to succeed in this career.

Having low standards initially is something most aspiring authors miss to see value in. When you expect less of yourself you become more productive than when you attempt perfection from the get go. It is advisable to only aim for a mediocre first draft. When you do this, you can initiate your task a lot quicker than you would have otherwise. Not having anything to write about is usually caused when you place so much pressure on yourself. It is easier to edit a bad first draft than it is to create magic on a blank page.

Another thing to note is that attempting to write a book will become a habit. The most successful habit adopters have made it extremely easy to do initially. Trying to meditate for twenty minutes a day for instance will only result in frustration and quitting. Trying to add a habit is harder than you think. Only an hour a day means you will attempt to push already ingrained habits aside to create a new block of time. Instead, opt for a method that encourages consistency like committing to writing a single page a day.

Wasting time is another thing writers struggle with. There are multiple ways to deal with this. Finding the optimal time of day you feel like writing is a good first step. A huge number of successful authors claim to have the most creativity during evenings, others lean towards working in the day time. Have a trial of both to find what works for you.

There are also rest interval methods that help you focus. Focus, just like anything is finite and it helps to take breaks from time to time so that you ensure you do not lose focus when writing. One method advocates a work period of twenty five minutes followed by rest periods of five minutes.

Another factor that will help you especially if you are an independent author is having a deadline that is shorter than you think you need. This works because it forces you to focus on your work and naturally remove all the useless fluff from your work and so you can effectively focus on the few that is crucial. Focusing on the crucial is another important point.

Think of anything, business, sports, entertainment, what they have in common is generally only twenty percent of effort is responsible for eighty percent of gain. Looking at entertainment, you will notice that the twenty percent are the episodic fiction shows are responsible for the bulk of the revenue of Television. It is crucial for you to determine the critical few you need to focus on rather than doing everything.

Once you incorporate these new tools I your arsenal, the only thing left to do is immersion. You will need to get immersed in creative pursuits if you want to compose fiction. If non fiction is more your preference then you need to have first hand experience in the subject matter.
