One of the many designers who have started thinking about the future scenario wherein the space in the cities will be cramped, Liviu Tudoran has envisioned the Shift concept. The Compact, sleek yet aggressive vehicle is designed for the crowded city of Bucharest and is aimed for the younger generation (18-25years). The two-seater all electric vehicle is propelled by the lithium-ion batteries and is a small car that not only helps avoid the urban crowd but occupies less space on the road. Shift concept is made in the style and design of the new Dacia identity, and some of the car’s shapes are inspired by the famous architecture buildings. The electric engine is mounted at the front and hydrogen storage tanks are located with the rear wheels. The emission free two-seater electric car will be launched in 2012.

Industrial designer Andrew Browder has proposed an urban transportation system that can be utilized on the highways as well as the waterways. Christened the Project Omega, the urban transportation system intends to transport you from point A to point B faster and more efficiently.
The vehicle, which has been designed for BMW, is powered by electric motors that have been integrated into the wheels. The wheels also harvest kinetic energy to top up the onboard battery of the car while on the move. When the highways are clogged, the user will be able to attach the vehicle with a catamaran platform that has been made from bio plastic.
When attached, the vehicle’s motors serve as the propulsion system for the catamaran, allowing the driver to utilize the waterway as a natural highway.

With the increasing vehicles on the road and cramped city space, security on the road remains the cardinal concern. As a result, designers across the globe are developing vehicle while keeping in mind the future scenario wherein these issues will be even more serious. One such designer is Yungho Jung who has envisioned a car for Saab for the year 2025. The concept has been developed as a project for graduation course in transportation design in Umea Institute of Design – one of the leading schools that prepare transportation designers. Yungho has kept safety as the main theme of the project as he noticed that much of accidents occur due to carelessness of drivers or speeding. Therefore, the concept is to arouse and inspire participants to take active part in the movement for self-preservation. On the other, the body of this Saab is made of a flexible composite and can change its shape as per the situation.
