Do you know how to frustrate a burglar? Make his job hard. If a criminal breaks into your home, the harder you make it for him to find your valuables, the higher the probability that he will leave before he is able to find them and take them.

But you must think hard about where to hide things. Even though there are lots of places that sound like good hiding spots, it is likely that the crook knows about those spots too! They read articles on the internet too, and they are trying to figure out where people are hiding things.

For example, do not hide things in the refrigerator. Crooks know about that hiding spot! He also knows that you may try hiding things in the toilet, under the cat litter, and in the pantry. You see, these are popular hiding places and he knows it!

Rather, spend some time thinking about some of the unusual places that crooks would not think to look for your items. One idea is the garden shed in your back yard. Crooks do not usually think of garden sheds as housing expensive items. Put a fake floor in your shed and use it as a place to store valuables!

While under your mattress may be a bad idea as a hiding place, inside your mattress is a great idea! Cut a hole in the end of your mattress and place your treasures inside. Sew the hole back up and then rotate the mattress so that the end with the hole is near the headboard. This is a great way to hide things from crooks!

Fake plugs are another great way to fool a burglar. These look like real plugs, but are actually empty inside. A burglar would have to use a screwdriver to remove the plate in order to find your valuables. Consider putting small valuables such as money and jewelry inside.
