The world is more connected than ever before, and because of this, personal and business travel is increasing dramatically. A lot of people are not aware that they can be protected around the world, in a wide variety of ways, by their home insurance policy.

A holiday in an exotic place could be in your agenda. Snowbirds are people who spend their winters in a warmer climate. There are a lot of expensive things people travel with, including clothes, electronics, and recreational equipment. If there is a theft or damages to your personal property on a trip, does home insurance offer any protection? Baggage coverage doesn't come cheaply, so refer to your home insurance policy first to see if your luggage is covered before paying extra money in this area, as it can make travel insurance more costly as well. The result could be a savings to you, and it will likely also cover these items while you're in your home country as well.

Most home insurance policies provide coverage for personal property temporarily removed from your principal residence. Liability coverage for personal actions worldwide is usually covered by home insurance policies, which protects you if you cause someone injury or damage their property.

Which situations below would be covered by your home insurance:

You're enjoying a spectacular view from a stone bridge in Scotland, and your camera slips out of your hands and falls in the river. Protected or not? If you have a comprehensive home insurance policy, you'll have coverage for the lost camera, subject to your deductible, no matter where in the world you lose it!

If you are careless when carrying your surfboard on your Hawaii trip, you could cause another person on the beach a serious injury. Protected here, or not? If you have a good home insurance policy, you would be protected from a lawsuit resulting from injuring a person in another country, due to the liability insurance that is included.

You just finished golfing the game of your life. And are having a celebratory drink in the clubhouse. When you come out, someone has stolen your golf clubs. Protected here, or not? Your personal property is covered anywhere in the world, so your policy should definitely respond. There are limits for certain types of property such as sports equipment, so stolen or lost golf clubs may not be fully protected. Your insurance advisor will help you acquire adequate insurance to cover you in these scenarios.

With your RV all packed up, you drive up the California coast for some vacation time. Your RV is broken into as you are out adventuring, and your laptop is taken, and your vehicle's flat screen is removed from the wall. Are these items insured or not? Your laptop should be covered by your home insurance policy, as it is an item "temporarily removed" from your principal residence. The TV, on the other hand, was attached to the RV, so would need to be claimed under your RV policy.

Having knowledge that your home insurance policy offers you protection as you vacation provides you some peace of mind.
