Leading a school is a very noble yet a very challenging responsibility. There are elements, factors, and considerations you have to analyze for the development of the school. One of the major determinants of excellent management is the overall academic performance. This includes teachers, administrators, and students in general. These elements are tightly connected with the other that the failure of one leads to the failure of all.

Long before, administrators like principals would grade their educators based on paperwork alone. Educational researches found that this is incomplete and could become harshly judgmental at times. That is why a newer way of observing and helping teachers was created and this what we call classroom walkthroughs.

Walkthroughs are short visits executed by administrators for overall observation and development. Usually, a group of school leaders including principals would go inside classrooms to observe and gather data for improvements. Instead of scrutinizing one educator, they would observe different classes in short minutes to gather data which would be helpful in debriefing.

These topics will then be agreed upon the administrators of which have to be disclosed to the educators. In addition, these can be coming from the observations and generalizations gathered by the visitors who have been assigned on a specific aspect to observe. Many of these aspects could include student comprehension, classroom materials, to the simplest writing on the chalkboard.

This will then give school administrators the idea on where to improve on based on general observation and not based on the lapses of a particular teacher or a particular student. That is why instead of changing things based on a single class, they can improve the overall academy structure to benefit the numbers. This was found effective by many scholars and researchers in improving student performance.

In addition, leaders have firsthand experiences of the advantage of everyday walkthroughs. Firstly, they shared that it is now easy for them to familiarize academy curriculum and to understand teaching practices of mentors. It has been also easy for them to measure student receptiveness and the academy climate. As well as the how the educators are catching on students.

Furthermore, they have noticed that mentors and leaders are now more team players than before especially in identifying and implementing instruction. As a result, teachers learned valuable skills from their leaders and vice versa. Students on their behalf, noticed that their administrators are doing extra effort in empowering mentors which was said to inspire them.

On one hand, it is also said that there are different methods created for walking through. As a school leader, it should be you and the team discretion based on the analyzed data to choose one model that would suit your academy. You may even formulate your own walk through if your team is patient enough to create one.

All in all, if you do the best with all the pure intentions, the school can maximize the learning potential of your students. Once you did this, you will feel the fulfillment and joy of knowing you orchestrated such development. Remember always, with force there is unity and with force change is possible.
